Red Rock three time champion Chris Cooke believes in giving back to the community.

Chris Cooke usually went to the convenience store to get his favourite movies. But this time he went to the wrestling section and got a WWF movie.

At 12 he started watching it live on TV twice a week. While the wrestlers told kids not to try what they were seeing, he ignored them.

“I think I can do this,” he thought.

Cooke and his friends got some mattresses and created a ring to practice.

 Two years later his his stepfather promised to build him a ring in his yard.

 By the time he was 16 he started training to become a pro wrestler with Wildman Gary Williams. At 20 he joined Red Rock wrestling and he was mentored by Kowboy Mike Hughes.

Cooke has won three championships.

For him it’s all about giving back to the community.

“Being part of the community, that adds to a huge component of what we do. People want to see that oh they are not just putting on a wrestling event, but they are part of the community,” he said.

Red Rock has raised a quarter of a million dollars in the last 13 years from charities like Habitat for humanity, MS society, Children’s wish and Make a Wish Foundation among others.

For it’s upcoming game the charity they’ve picked is the Make a Wish Foundation. Over eight years they’ve been able to grant six wishes.

Kowboy Mike Hughes is a retired pro wrestler who is the promoter and owner of Red Rock wrestling in P.E.I.

“Being a promoter is good because I have the opportunity to make the decisions and I also get to use my influence to raise money for charity,” said Hughes.

While Red Rock took a break during covid, once again crowds are still packed with tickets for their upcoming event getting sold out.

“Our crowds have been great so far, our first show back after covid we sold out,” said Hughes.

On Friday 29, Chris Cooke would be defending his heavy weight championship in a hardcore match against Lincoln Steen at the Stratford Town Hall.
